November 14, World Day to celebrate advances in the fight against Diabetes.
November 13, 2021
Setting a day on the calendar to bring attention to a health issue is very common. Since 1991, November 14th has been established by the IDF – International Diabetes Federation and the WHO – World Health Organization as World Diabetes Day, in response to growing concern about the threat to health posed by the disease. In 2006 it became an Official United Nations Day.
This date was chosen because it is the birthday of Frederick Banting, who together with Charles Best, led the experiments that led to the discovery of Insulin in 1921.
Global awareness campaign.
World Diabetes Day is the world's largest diabetes awareness campaign, reaching a global audience of over one billion people in 165 countries.
The campaign is represented by the blue circle logo, adopted in 2007 after the adoption of the UN Resolution on diabetes. The blue circle is the global symbol of diabetes awareness. She represents the unity of the world community around the fight against diabetes.
